As you might know, this blog is about chickens. In it you will find steps on how to play with your chickens, train them, make things for them, and much, much more. So, the first thing we will look at is how to train your chickens to come to a sound. To do this, you must find a clean sparkling water or soda can. If you want, you can paint the can to make it look fancy!
Now, to turn it into a noise maker, simply put some beads inside of it and them put tape on the mouth part of the can. But before using it to train your girls, be sure to let it dry completely. This is called a Hen Shaker.🐔🐥🐣🐤 The first time, your girls won’t get it. What I recommend is bringing treats with the Hen Shaker. Like I said before, they won’t get it the first time, so I would recommend coming out with treats and at the exact same time every day. I like to come out in the late afternoon around 5:00 when the flock is calming down for the day. But you can do whatever works best for you and your flock. You could bring your girls some mealworms or you could do scraps. You could also do a mixture of both. (See my next post for the Happy Hen Snack Packs for an idea for treats to bring your girls for training.) Remember, don’t make any big or sudden movements, or you might scare your chickens. And just as a reminder, don’t shake the can all the time and also don’t shake the can while the chickens are eating their treats.

Love this Ruby!!! Good job!!
I’ll try some of these ideas with “my girls” ❤️💕

I have thoroughly enjoyed this blog! I love the videos and chicken songs. I use something similar to your chicken shaker to tell my donkey “Jenny” that it is time for her treats!

Does Jenny let you pet her?

Jenny was born as a wild donkey, and although she has received a lot of love, she remains a little scared of people. I can hold a bowl of grain and she will eat out of it and kind of nuzzle my hand in the process. Sometimes she lets me pet her, but not often. She does Hee-haw very loud, and I think that is hilarious!
