All about our Hens 🐓

Elvira

Meet Elvira, our Cuckoo Maran. She is very shy and won’t let you pick her up, but she’ll come for snacks or treats! We named her Elvira because there used to be a show called Elvira and we thought she looked like the Elvira from the show.

Tooter McGraw

Meet Tooter McGraw. Like Elvira, she is very shy, and she is a little skittish about accepting treats, but she is very irresistible and fluffy and she is one of our Brahmas. I like to say that she is wearing bell bottoms because of her feathered feet.

Noisy

Meet Noisy. Unlike her sister, she will crouch down if you try to pet her or pick her up. She loves mealworms too! And she is not skittish about accepting treats and she will gladly share some cuddles with you. In fact she used to nuzzle my arm if she was sitting in my lap and I pet the top of her head. But she’ll let you know when she’s had enough. Noisy is a Brahma too. She isn’t that loud, but my sister named her Noisy. She does sing the egg song occasionally.😂

Laura Ingalls Wilder

Meet Laura Ingalls Wilder. If you’ve read the Little House books, you have probably heard the name before. But we’re not talking about the Little House books right now. I’m introducing you to our Favorolle. Although she is very lovable, she is kind of shy. She’ll sometimes crouch down to let you pet her. She is very loud and she is also very funny. My favorite parts about her is that she is very loud and I like how her cheeks are fluffy. She’d probably make even the grumpiest people smile. See my next post for videos of our hens. Including a video of how loud Laura Ingalls Wilder is.

Buttercup

Meet Buttercup. She is one of our Cecilean Buttercups. That is why we named her Buttercup. She is one of our skittish ones. After we lost shark, one of our Cuckoo Marans we adopted her along with two other chicks named Lincoln and Grandma. Sadly, Grandma passed away last September with Lincoln following in January. I was devastated. At night, Buttercup sleeps in the rafters and she is very pretty. The rafters is where Grandma used to sleep.

  1. I love that I know about the featured characters in the blog. After your descriptions I felt like I knew them when I saw your video of them eating. Well done.
